Neat list of box office flops

Trolling through Wikipedia, I found this list of films which made far less than their budget. Now, some of them probably made out ok after video rentals and sales but there were quite a few that I was surprised at.
  • Almost Famous ($80mill budget /$54 mill box office) Beautifully acted and Cameron Crowe-directed coming-of-age tale that pitted a young writer into the life of a 70's rock band on the up and up. Introduced the world to Kate Hudson.

  • EdTV ($80mill budget /$21 mill box office) Kind of a real-life Truman Show, which came out around the same time (and was probably the main reason for this one's failure). McConaughy is kind of annoying as the guy they follow around, but Woody Harrelson, Martin Landau, Rob Reiner, and Ellen Degeneres all have funny supporting roles. At least, worth a rental.

  • Hurlyburly ($15 mill / $1.8 mil) - Based on a play, Kevin Spacey and Sean Penn are Hollywood hot shots who have got some very clever dialog. Actually I don't remember much about the simple plot, only that I thought their discussions were rich, full-of-life, and enjoyable to participate in. Another one certainly worth adding to Netflix.

  • Last Action Hero ($85 mill / $50 mill) - Shut up, it was an incredibly clever premise. I liked it.
And, of course, some on the list were bonafide crap that should never have been released:
  • Soldier
  • Bonfire of the Vanities
  • Sahara
  • The Postman
  • The 6th Day
